This blog came out from my own bad experiences with property management in Orlando.
I am Ray White, and along with my partner, Sue, we bought a beautiful 5 bedroom villa on Highlands Reserve in June 2016.
Our first property managgers were recommended as the best villa management/villa rentals company in the area and we had no reason to presume otherwise when we sat down with them to discuss our requirements.
They looked us square in the eye and lied through their teeth as they assured us that their service was "second to none" and told us they would apply their previous property management skilld to the highest of standards.
We shook hands and flew home to the UK and that was when the nightmare began.
Buying a holiday home in Florida is highly emotive. We took 3 years to find our perfect place in the sun. It is our "dream" home and we still feel privileged to own it, excited to think about it and to fly across and stay there. However, that was overshadowed by the way we were ripped off.
From day 1 and all of the period that we were involved with these guys we felt sick to the stomach and powerless to give our guests a reasonable standard of service. The stress affected our health and we were pushed to the very edge where we were about to sell up and re-think the whole process.
We feel well and truly ripped off and have spoken to various owners and guests who feel the same.
Our new management company is like a breath of fresh air. Like us, they are businesslike in their approach and take pride in the service that they provide.
Although it does seem that some management companies view owners as fair game to be milked and scammed at every opportunity, the continuity of this practice depends on none of the victims getting to know each other.
After spending time at Orange County Courthouse and appointing my own lawyer in Orlando, I know that the legal system in Florida doesn't necessarily favour an individual seeking compensation but together and organised, we have strength.
My goal is that, through this blog we may swop real experiences, find the facts, bring owners and guests together and receive fair compensation.
Management companies are quick to take the money. If they can't do the job, they should give the money back.
Best Regards
Ray
